I think when you start handing out breathing masks to athletes and visitors, this is a clue that there is trouble ahead.

Yeah, it was a bad call. Even apart from the political considerations.
NBC is promoting their HD broadcasts as being able to show the detail of the smallest particulates found in the air. However, some of the major events will be using infrared and ultrasound to cut through the thick smog.
