I think Steve actually screwed up

Yes, it can happen to the best of us. Steve screwed up.

Not allowing the Apple credit for the iPhones to be used in iTunes for music is just plain stupid. I realize they make nothing on the music and that is probably why it isn't allowed but what are people supposed to do with $100 besides buy a Shuffle perhaps.

Yeah, it's pretty colossal.

It comes off now as a discount off something expensive, rather than any return of money. Apple doesn't sell much under $100, so you're likely to have to spend a little money to be able to effectively use the $100.

I don't know why Apple didn't bite the bullet, and simply credit every iPhone owner with $100. on their cell phone bill. Done and done.

The longer this lingers with customer dissatisfaction, the worse for Apple. Especially among the early adopters. Next time Apple unveils something big, it might make people pause before lining up first day.

I like your idea of a credit on the phone bill. That seems like the best idea yet although that might be a bit harder since the phone comes from AT&T. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out now.

No matter what now, as you said, I think they just screwed themselves on their next big product launch.
